This piece is a collection of images and textures, memories of ancient scripts, temple gates, and the 89 uneven steps
to reach our room on the top floor of the narrow ‘Stars Hotel’ in the old quarter of the city.
From our high vantage point we could observe the daily routines of the street. Very early came the women rubbish
collectors, every item carefully scrutinised for on-selling or recycling. Streets swept clean, street vendors selling
goods and foodstuffs from the two heavily laden baskets hanging from the ends of the long pole balanced on their
shoulders. Looking from the balcony above, the pole extended both sides from the conical hat as they walked by,
making interesting shapes, while others on top-heavy bicycles made swirling tracks through the wet streets.
